‘What on earth is that image above?’ I hear you ask. It’s a fair enough question, as it doesn’t look like much, but it’s actually the first pic from Kevin Smith’s Red State, which he tweeted to show that production is now well underway.
It was worth Kevin doing, as it’s been a real odyssey for Smith to get it to the screen, with massive trouble finding funding – so this is proof it’s actually happening. Shooting has commenced on the film, which is inspired by the gay-hating, funeral-picketing Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist church. The pic is shot from over the shoulder of Michael Parks, who plays the main character, Abin Cooper, a crazed preacher who comes up agains a group of teens. Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner and Stephen Root also star, with the film due in cinemas next year.
