Ever since Let The Right One In, many have been closely watching director Tomas Alfredson to see what he’ll do next. While he’s been attached to a couple of movies and dropped out, he’s currently hard at work prepping an adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and now it appears he’s lined up his next project as well.
Back in 2006, Warner purchased the film rights to Phillip Reeve’s children’s novel, Larklight, and while it’s been on the backburner ever since then, THR reports that it’s been given some much needed impetus with Alfredson coming onboard to direct the period fantasy. The book ‘is set in a Victorian-era alternate universe in which mankind has been exploring the solar system since the time of Isaac Newton and revolves around a brother and sister who team with a band of renegade space pirates to save the world from destruction at the hands of a madman.’
Sounds cool, but potentially very expensive, which may be why Warner hasn’t been pushing it harder. Shekhar Kapur was previously attached to direct, but he’s now left, with Alfredson replacing him, and Steve Knight (Eastern Promises) hired to rewrite the script.
