Although there’s a vague feeling that Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance is only going into production so that Sony doesn’t lose the rights to the character, the film is gearing up to shoot, with Nicolas Cage back on board for the follow-up, and the promise it won’t be as crap as the first movie.
Now the film has got a couple of new cast members, with THR reporting that Ciarán Hinds and Italian actress-singer Violante Placido are both in talks to join the film. The movie, adapted from a script that David S. Goyer wrote a decade ago for a previous abortive attempt to bring the character to the silver screen, sees cursed stuntman Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. He is then recruited by a sect to battle the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal sons body on the boys birthday. Pacido will play the boy’s mother.
Shooting is due to being in November in Romania and Turkey, with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer) directing (they also adapted Goyer’s original story for the screen).
