Men In Back III is gearing up for production, and it seems they’re on the lookout for a new agent, with Variety reporting that Emma Thompson is in negotiations to join the movie. It’s actually likely they’ll need a few new faces, seeing as this adventure sees Agent Jay (Will Smith) going back in time to the 1960s.
There he teams up with a younger version of Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones will return as the older Kay, with Josh Brolin stepping into his younger shoes), and take on a villain played by Jermaine Clement. Thompson is in talks to play Agent Oh, who’s also from the 1960s and is monitoring a prison break. There are few more details on the plot, other than that the 1969 setting suggests the moon landings will be involved.
It sounds like basically Emma will be the new boss, which isn’t too much of a surprise, as the production is likely to want to have little to do with Rip Torn, who previously filled that role, seeing as he’s gone mental and is currently facing prosecution for breaking into a bank while drunk, thinking it was his own home.
Barry Sonnenfeld is back behind the camera for Men In Black III, with shooting due to begin later this month.
