Just a quick update on yesterday’s news that Lucasfilm has confirmed they’re starting work converting the six Star Wars movies to 3D, and that the first of them will hit cinemas in 2012. However at the time, there was no news when in 2012 we’d get to see Star Wars with an added dimension.
Now THR has stepped forward to say Fox and Lucasfilm are planning to launch The Phanton Menace into 3D-equipped cinemas in February 2012, with the hope of making it an annual event, until Return Of The Jedi emerges in spring 2017.
However the conversions will only continue if Phantom Menace proves to be a commercial success – but that said, it’s tough to imagine they won’t convert the original trilogy, as that’s what people really are intrigued by seeing in three-dimensions, and with 3D TV emerging, there’s a whole new market for Lucas to cash in on.
