Ever since Andrew Garfield was announced as the new Spider-man, the focus has shifted to who will be playing the female lead. The likes of Imogen Poots, Ophelia Lovibond, Lily Collins, Teresa Palmer, Emma Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were all on a previously rumoured shortlist, but now EW reports that producers have turned their attention to Mia Wasikowska (Alice In Wonderland) and Emma Stone (Zombieland).
The duo are both said to have been working with Sony and director Marc Webb on readings and tests, in the hope of landing the role. While Sony is keeping it cards close to its chest about the movie, refusing to say who the villain is, or the name of the main female characters, the suggestion is that Stone and Wasikowska are in line to play Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy, which contradicts earlier reports that Mary Jane wouldn’t be a big part of the reboot (and indeed, it’s actually more than possible both actresses are up for the same role, and it isn’t Mary Jane). Currently neither actress has officialy landed any part in the flick, with Variety adding that Teresa Palmer and Lily Collins are also still in contention and have met with the studio.
Incidentally, Variety also adds that Emma Stone is circling the film version of 21 Jump Street, which Phil Lord is set to direct, with Jonah Hill starring.
