The life of a child actor is a strange one, especially if you find success young. Chole Moretz is currently the toast of Hollywood, but who knows if she’ll manage to segue that into a lasting career? However currently she’s making hay with the likes of Let Me In and Scorsese’s upcoming Hugo Cabret, and now Deadline reports that she’s signed up to star in Emily The Strange for Universal.
Created in 1993, the Dark Horse comics character Emily The Strange is a goth-looking 13-year-old, who normally goes everyone with her four black cats. She’s a bit of a counterculture icon, and indeed has found more success with a range of merchandising than she has in comic form.
The movie has actually been in development for a couple of years, and seemed to be stuck there, but as creator Rob Reger says, “When I first met Chloe I knew I found my Emily. She really identifies and understands the character, and has what it takes to bring her to life.” And that seems to have given the project new life.
