At the moment, Natalie Portman seems to be the toast of Hollywood, with her name cominmg up in connection with virtually every major role going, and the latest she’s reportedly considering is Brothers Grimm: Snow White.
At the moment it’s only a rumour, but Pajiba reports that Natalie Portman is interested in the lead role, while Jean-Pierre Jeunet is thinking about directing. If they can land them, it’d certainly be good news for the film, which previously was exciting few, due to the fact Brett Ratner is producing.
Written by Melisa Wallack, as the title suggests, compared to most modern versions of the tale, the film cleaves close to the original Grimm’s fairytale. Ratner previously told Deadline, “This is not your grandfather’s Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do.”
If Jeunet does com onboard, it’d be his first Hollywood venture since Alien: Resurrection, but hopefully he’ll do better this time. Portman’s involvement is ever less certain, simply because she’s already attached to numerous movies, and whether she’d have time for another one is debatable.
