Maybe I’m just a cynic, but any film where the producer says, “It’s a wacky comedy in the tone of Harold and Maude,” makes me think perhaps that person ought to be taken out the back and shot. Harold and Maude is one of the best movies ever, but wacky comedy it is not, and anyone who thinks it is, really shouldn’t be involved in make movies. Anyway, that’s Doug Claybourne said about the upcoming Mis-Fits, suggesting he’s never actually seen Harold and Maude, and just knows it’s a dark comedy involving death.
According to THR, the movie tells the story of a “necro-detective” who goes in search of people’s lost, dead relatives, and now it’s got a cast, with Guy Pearce, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Seymour Cassel, Cloris Leachman and Virginie Ledoyen all signed up for the flick. And they’ve certainly got them early, as the movie doesn’t start shooting until next May.
The script is by author-playwright L.D. Napier, who will also make her directorial debut with the film. Hopefully she’s also going to ask Doug Claybourne to stop describing her movie in such a stupid way.
