Tim Burton has been developing Frankenweenie as an animated feature film project for quite a while, but it’s only now that he’s starting to fill out the voice cast. It turns out it’ll be a bit of a reunion for Burton, as he’s previously worked with all four actors that Deadline reports will be in the movie.
Winona Ryder, who of course starred in Burton’s Beetlejuice, will play Elsa in Frankenweenie, while Martin Landau, who won an Oscar for Burton’s Ed Wood, will be Mr. Rzyruski. Also showing off their talents with five characters apiece are Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara. Short previously appeared in Burton’s Mars Attacks!, while O’Hara was in both Beetlejuice and A Nightmare Before Christmas.
The stop motion film itself is based on Burton’s 1984 short about a boy who stitches together and reanimates his dog after it gets run over. While the bolt-necked dgo starts to cause havoc, the boy is still convinced his pet is good at heart. It should be in cinemas March 2012.
