They’re certainly getting an impressive cast together for Tomas Alfredson’s (Let Me In) adaptation of John Le Carre’s classic novel, Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, and while there have been a few comings and goings, at the moment the likes of Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Harris and Ciaran Hinds should all be appearing.
Now the Daily Mail reports (yes, we know, but they appear to be on the ball this time) that Mark Strong has been added to the line-up, while Svetlana Khodchenko has also signed up. While Strong’s role isn’t known, at one point Ralph Fiennes was going to star, but he appears to have dropped out, so Strong could well be his replacement. Khodchenko on the other hand will, unsurprisingly, play a Russian spy.
Gary Oldman will be taking on the rather daunting dask of trying to follow in Alec Guinness’ footsteps, who played lead character George Smiley in a 1979 TV version of the spy novel. The story folloow retired British intelligence officer Smiley (who is often described as being a sort of quiet, anti-Jame Bond figure), who is asked to return to his old agency to discover which of his former colleagues is a Russian spy.
