Kate Beckinsale could really do with a big hit, as she hasn’t had a genuine success for a few years now. However the actress has landed a new role, although it’s yet to be seen whether it’ll be the big grosser she needs.
Kate has been cast in Contraband, the new title for the remake of the 2008 Icelandic hit, Reykjavik-Rotterdam about a former smuggler turned security guard, who has financial woes and is lured back into the drug running game. Mark Wahlberg, who’s also a producer, has long been attached for the main role, and although Latino Review, who broke the Beckinsale news, can’t confirm it, it would appear she’s in line to play Iris.
Baltasar Kormákur, who is Icelandic but didn’t direct the original (that was Óskar Jónasson) is helming, based on a script by Aaron Guzikowski.
