It was more a case of when rather than if someone was going to try and make a movie version of the TV show Deadliest Warrior. After all, while it purports to be a kind of documentary pitting different types of ancient warriors against one another to see who would really win, the fact is, most of the actual battles are pure fiction, based on the scantest evidence.
That’s despite the show’s insistence it uses world-class fighters, historians and weapons experts to provide insight into the unique history and style of these combatants which culminates in a head-to-head final fight between two warriors to declare which one would have been the deadliest. In reality they take the real info, and then in the final battle, pretty much just make it up.
However the concept of being able to put the greatest types of fighter from throughout Earth history together, is one that certainly holds promise for a movie, and so now Paramount Pictures has set Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy to produce a movie version. There’s no news on the plot as yet, but with the TV show offering memorable battles such as Spartan vs. Ninja, Viking vs. Samurai, Pirate vs. Knight, Yakuza vs. Mafia and Comanche vs. Mongol, there’s a lot of scope for fun. With Levy on board though, this is more likely to be PG-13 rated fun than an all out bloodbath.
As yet, no production date had been set for the film. (Source: Movieweb)
