Being a correspondent on The Daily Show is certainly a great launching pad for talent, with the likes of Steve Carrell and Steven Colbert going onto huge success after appearing regularly on the show. Now another correspondent seems poised to do similar, with John Oliver lined to to star in Terry’s Jones’ Absolutely Anything.
As you might expect from Jones, who will direct and co-wrote the screenplay with Gavin Scott, the movie sounds a tad bizarre, with Deadline reporting that it’ll involve ‘aliens, a goofy Brit, a talking dog and buckets of silliness’, although that’s all the plot info available at the moment.
Along with Oliver, Robin Williams is in talks to play the talking dog, while Jones has reached out to former Monty Python cohorts John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam to voice the alien. None of those has signed up yet, but it could make for a very interesting movie if they do.
