Although it sounds almost too bizarre to be true, Pajiba is reporting that Joel Schumacher, the man behind The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down and, erm, Batman & Robin, is planning a movie involving the ghost of Barry White teaching teenagers the ways of love.
While the director has moved from serious to commercial over the years, with varying results, he hasn’t had a genuine hit since 1995’s Batman Forever. Even if serious efforts like Veronica Guerin and Tigerland were crticially well recieved, all of his mainstream efforts were critically mauled and left for dead at the box office. As a result it’s perhaps not a surprise he’s looking into new territories, not least because he’s in danger of being seen as box office poison – especially as his latest movie, Twelve, is yet to gross a million despite the presence of Chace Crawford, 50 Cent and Keifer Sutherland.
If Pajiba’s reports is accurate, Schumacher is going with a concept that should ensure at least a few bums on seats, even if not that many, although as the current title, The Barry White Story, sounds like a biopic, expect that to change. The movie is currently in the early stages, with writers being sought.
