Perhaps no two actors in history have squandered the excitment about them appearing together in a movie like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. For decades people wanted to see it, and even when they did make a movie together – Heat – with only a single scene together it left people wanting more. Then eventually we got Righteous Kill, which mainly provoked the reaction, ‘Is that the best they could do?’
However it appears they may be at it again, with Deadline reporting the duo may re-team for The Irishman, based on Charles Brandt’s book, I Hear You Paint Houses. De Niro has been attached for a while now, and just to make the teaming of Bobby with Pacino sound exciting again, Martin Scorsese has been helping develop the film, it’s about gangsters, and it look like there’s a role for Joe Pesci.
Yep, suddenly it’s a movie everyone wants to see!
The film will be about Frank The Irishman Sheeran, a mob hitman responsible for more than 25 murders, who claimed he was the one who offed Jimmy Hoffa. As yet it’s unclear what role De Niro, Pacino and Pesci are up for. Although Righteous Kill ruined the teaming of De Niro and Pacino, this is a film that suddenly makes the whole thing seem exciting again.
