Gareth Edwards has become hot property with Monsters, his sci-fi movie that was shot with only a $100,000 production budget and had the special effects done on home computers (admittedly Edwards’ SFX background helped a lot with this). While Monsters has been showing at festivals and will arrive in cinemas in November, Edwards has now set his follow-up.
Deadline is reporting that Edwards is teaming with Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov on a science fiction film that Edwards will write and direct, with Bekmambetov producing. Edwards and Bekmambetov describe the project as “an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity.” And if you’re wondering what sort of daft statement that is, it’s because it’s the sort of thing people say to get studio executives interested, rather than because it actually means anything.
However that’s it for info on the film, partly as it’s very early days. Edwards is yet to write the screenplay, but once he does, he and Bekmambetove will shop it around to studios.
