The cast of Rampart is growing, with Variety reporting that Steve Buscemi, Sigourney Weaver, Cynthia Nixon, Robin Wright and Ann Heche have all signed up to join the previously announced Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster and Ice Cube.
The film will be directed by Oren Moverman (The Messenger) from a script by LA Confidential author James Ellroy, making this a very tempting proposition. Rampart follows a fictional detective (Harrelson) who is caught up in the real-life LA Rampart Division scandal (which also inspired the likes of The Shield and Training Day), where massive misconduct was uncovered in the anti-gang unit in the late 90s, which covered everything from stealing cocaine from the police lock-up and armed robbery, to framing innocent people for shootings the police had done themselves. Rampart officers were even implicated in the conspiracy to murder The Notorious B.I.G.
Other than Harrelson, it’s not clear what roles the others will play, but it’s one hell of a cast to tell a tale that people have been flirting with for years, but no one has really tackled head on. Shooting is due to being on October 25th.
