For the last couple of weeks, rumours have been floating around that Universal has been close to locking down Robert Schwentke, director of the much buzzed about Red, to helm its adaptation of the comic book RIPD. Now Deadline confirms that Schwentke has signed his deal and is indeed preparing to direct Ryan Reynolds in the flick.
However he has some time to prepare, as with Reynolds’ diary full to bursting, the actor won’t have time to shoot the movie until late next summer, once he’s filmed The Change Up and Safe House, and promotion for Green Lantern is complete.
The supernatural comedy is about a division of the police that is staffed entirely by the dead. Reynolds will will a cop killed in the line of duty, who enlists in the supernatural squad in the hope of being able to stop his own killer. So a bit like Beetlejuice meets Ghost then. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash Of The Titans) are on scripting duties, adpating the Dark horse comic by Peter Lenkov.
