It would seem that Jonathan Rhys Meyers loves Europe, as not content with blowing up as much of it as he could in From Paris With Love, he’s now decided to get a bit more romantic while retaining a gallic flavour.
Deadline reports that he’s landed the lead role in an adpatation of Albert Cohen’s book, Belle De Seigneur. The Tudors actor ‘will play a Jewish diplomat who gets into a passionate affair with a married Swiss woman, played by Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova (Clash of the Titans), on the eve of the Second World War.’
While that sound like a fairly standard plot, the book has been lauded for decades, and they’ve found an interesting pair of screenwriters to adapt it, with James Dearden (Fatal Attraction) and Vincenzo Cerami (Life Is Beautiful) melding their past work together to create the script. Shooting begins in October in Switzerland and Italy.
