Mark Millar Says Kick-Ass 2 Is Greenlit – And he wants Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp to star in Nemesis

1st September 2010 By Tim Isaac

At the moment I’d take this with a grain of salt, but he’s said it, so it’s worth reporting. Mark Millar, the comic book creator of Kick-Ass and Wanted, has said that Kick-Ass 2 has already received the greenlight, and not only that, but he’s also mooting Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp for his ‘what if Bruce Wayne was a dick?’ project, Nemesis.

It should be noted that Millar is not always the most reliable of fellows, and it may well be he’s getting ‘greenlit’ mixed up with, ‘go ahead and develop it’, as he also suggest the movie is nearly a year from production at the earliest (particularly as Matthew Vaughn will be busy with X-Men: First Class until next June). Anyway, here’s what he told BBC Radio Five Live (thanks to Bleeding Cool), “The estimate is [Kick-Ass] will do 100 to 150 million on DVD based on the American sales, you know, so it’ll end up making a quarter of a billion on a 28 million investment. So It should be okay. So the sequel’s greenlit, we can go ahead and do the follow up now, you know. The first made so much compared to what it cost it would be crazy not to.”

As for Nemesis, he told Five Live, ‘Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott… I just got a call from him, literally about a month ago… it was one of those very surreal things. This is a $150 million budget… he said “Who do you fancy for it?”… I said “I dunno, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp” so he said “That’s good, we’ll give them a call.”’ While that’s miles from saying those stars will actually do it, at least Scott is thinking big!
