For a couple of months now, rumours have been swirling that Jonathan Liebesman, director of the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles, is Warner Bros’ top choice to helm Clash Of The Titans 2. You might have thought they’d have wanted Louis Leterrier, who made the first film, but he ruled himself out only days after his movie opened.
Now the rumours have been confirmed, with THR reporting that Liebesman has signed his deal to helm the mythological sequel. While his name first came up in early June, it’s taken months to conclude the deal, largely due to money, as well as the director’s uncertainty over helming a follow-up to a film that many trashed (even if it made a lot of money).
However Warner promised to do things right this time, such as shooting in 3D rather than converting in post, and getting some top writers to work on it. The studio was keen to work with Liebesman after seeing footage from Battle: Los Angeles, which some have described as Independence Day meets Black Hawk Down.
Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton are both due to return fro Clash 2, with shooting expected to start in the spring.
