If Guillmero Del Toro’s name is attached to something, it’s normally worth watching out for, and that certainly seems true of Julia’s Eye, which he produced, with Guillem Morales directing. The movie, which will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, is about Julia, who’s suffering from a degenerative eye disease. She begins to investigate the death of her sister, which looks like suicide but which Julia things is murder. This leads her into a dark and strange world that seems to be haunted by a mysterious presence. The trailer is certainly creepy, with lots of jumps and creepy people with no pupils. It’s all extremely peculiar, but suggests this could be a real Spanish-language treat.
