While pretty much every movie producer under the sun says they want Angelina Jolie for their movie, this time there might actually be some substance to the news that GK Films wants the much-coveted Jolie for a film adaptation of the 2009 ITV mini-series, Unforgiven (not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood western).
GK is the company behind Angelina’s movie The Tourist, which she recently finished shooting with Johnny Depp, and will also finance her recently announced Bosnian love story, which she is set to write and direct (although contrary to ealier reports, it appears she won’t star in that one), so they certainly have a good relationship with her. While Jolie isn’t signed onto Unforgiven yet, Deadline reports that Chris McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Wolverine 2) has just been hired to write the script, and to tailor it specifically for the actress to play the lead role.
The original mini-series is about a woman who attempts to rejoin society after a 15-year stint in prison for the murder of two policemen, who died when they came to evict her and and her family from their farmhouse. While she hopes to live quietly and reconnect with her sister, the woman is targeted by two of the sons of one of her victims, who are out for revenge.
Jolie never commits to a movie until she’s seen a script, but this project is apparently on the fast track, with GK Films betting that they can get her to sign on the dotted line.
