It seems there’s a new film to add to the list of movies Sam Worthington is attached to or rumoured for, even though he doesn’t possibly have time to make them all. The Playlist is reporting (from an interview the star gave in the West Australian newspaper), that he’s heading home to Australia for a movie called Drift.
There aren’t that many details on the film, but the star says it will track the rise of surfing in Australia and globally. “I’m a [Western Australian] boy at heart and to go back there and put something back into my home town is something I am really looking forward to,” he told the West Australian. “There’s something pure and true about surfing, and there is something pure and true about this script.”
Worthington, an avid surfer himself, will play a photographer and journalist, who plays a vital role in popularising the sport, from a fringe hobby to a global obsession. The $11 million movie will be directed by Morgan O’Neill, with the plan to shoot early next year, in order to take advantage of what will be the southern hemisphere’s autumn. However with IMDB already listing Sam for 10 as yet unreleased projects, the people behind Drift will have to hope his love of surfing and Australia ensures he doesn’t drop out and go for a bigger paycheque elsewhere (especially as some reports suggest they want to shoot Clash Of The Titans 2 next spring).
