It may have finally happened that even Jessica Alba has realised she’s not a very good actress, so rather than trying to be the lead in films that suffer from having her there, she’s going for supporting roles that allow us to remember she exists, without having to actually watch her trying to act too much.
She’s now landed just such a role in Spy Kids 4, Robert Rodriguez’s reboot of his kids series, which was showing major signs of fatigue by the third outing, but his hoping for new life with some new lead character. According to THR, the ‘new movie centres on Alba as a retired spy who has been reactivated. The actress, mother of a toddler in real life, will be playing the mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren. The actors cast in the preteen roles will be the new Spy Kids.’
While the original Spy Kids, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, are now too old to be kids, they’re expected to return in supporting roles, as is Antonio Banderas. Casting is ongoing for an actor to play Alba’a husband in the movie, as well as for the villain, known as the Time Keeper, whose goal it is to stop time.
Rodriguez plans to start shooting in Texas next month, with the film costing around $30 million.
