While Jim Jarmusch has become a beloved indie auteur thanks to the likes of Dead Man and Ghost Dog, he’s not exactly the most prolific of directors, so there’s always interest when he’s working on a new project. Well it seems he’s got one up his sleeve, and he’s let slip who he’s lined up to star in it.
Pitchfork spoke to Jarmusch about the fact he’s curating a day of the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in New York State, and they inevitably asked him about what else he was working on. He says “Im working on a documentary about the Stooges (Iggy Pop and… not the comedy trio). Its going to take a few years. Theres no rush on it, but its something that Iggy asked me to do. Im co-writing an opera. It wont be a traditional opera, but itll be about the inventor Nikola Tesla, with the composer Phil Klein. I have a new film project thats really foremost for me that I hope to shoot early next year with Tilda Swinton and Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska, who was Alice in Wonderland in Tim Burtons film. I dont have that quite financed yet, so Im working on that.”
Swinton is becoming a bit of a Jarmusch regular following Broken Flowers and The Limits Of Control, and they certainly seem to make a good team. However the director didn’t give any other details about the movie, such as the story, so we’ll have to wait to hear about that.
