I was only saying yesterday we can expect virtually daily new X-Men: First Class casting news as it prepares to shoot in three weeks times, and that certainly seems to be true, as several new cast members have now emerged.
First up, XMenFilms.net is reporting that 10-year-old Morgan Lily has been cast as a young Mystique, although Variety says she’ll play a young Raven. The reason we don’t properly know which roles it is, is that director Matthew Vaughn has previously said he’d be releasing casting misdirects to keep people on their toes and hopefully retain some sense of surprise. So while Lily is in the movie, it’s not clear who she’ll play.
Also onboard in Mad Men star January Jones, who Variety reports will play telepathic mutant Emma Frost in the Matthew Vaughn movie. A few weeks ago, She’s Out Of My League and Sex and the City 2 star, Alice Eve, was said to be in talks for that role (and before that Rosamund Pike was rumoured), but no deal emerged, and now Eve is out and Jones is in.
Variety also confirms that Jason Flemyng will play Azazel, and adds that Bill Milner (Son Of Rambow) will play Magneto as a boy (suggesting flashbacks, presumably to show what happened to the character during and after the holocaust, which we sat a bit of at the beginning of the first X-Men movie), while Zoe Kravitz also has a role. While Variety doesn’t say what part Kravitz will play, Deadline says it’s Angel, but that makes little sense, as that character is male (and was played by Ben Foster in X-Men 2), and should have barely been born when First Class takes place. In fact, it’s perhaps a safer bet she’s really playing a teenage Storm.
