A raft of first pics from upcoming films have appeared online, so take a look below to see them…
While scans of this image from the Coen’s remake of True Grit (which was first published in the latest issue of EW), have appeared online in the last few days, now a proper version has shown up, giving us our first proper look at the eyepatch wearing Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), as well as Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross. The young Ross hires Cogburn to go into Indian territory to track down her family’s killer. The film should be in UK cinemas early next year. (Image courtesy of /Film)
Passion Play is an intriguing movie, about a down-on-his-luck Jazz trumpeter (Mickey Rourke), who falls for a woman (Megan Fox) who works as the Bird Woman in a circus sideshow (it’s unclear whether her wings are real or not). He persuades her to run away with him, but it turns out reality is often more complicated than fantasy. The first image was revealed to promote the fact the movie will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Another Toronto Film Festival image premiere is What’s Wrong With Virgina Woolf, written and directed by Oscar-winning Milk scribe, Dustin Lance Black. Jennifer Connelly stars as Virginia, a charming yet mentally ill mother whose greatest love is her protector and illegitimate son, Emmett (Harrison Gilbertson). Richard Tipton (Ed Harris), the local married Mormon sheriff, who is running for public office, might very well be Emmetts father. This boardwalk towns peculiar secrets are threatened when Virginias son begins a romantic relationship with Tiptons daughter (Emma Roberts) sending mother and son on a mad dash to seize their own brand of the American Dream guns blazing.
The three images above are from Henry’s Crime, which will also Premiere at TIFF. In the film, after serving three years in prison for a bank robbery he did not commit, an amiable but aimless man (Keanus Reeves) decides to rob the bank for real. His plan involves infiltrating a local theatre company, but his scheme gets complicated when he falls for the companys lead actress.
Finally, EW has unveiled the first pic from Bridesmaids, which look like pretty much every other wedding comedy, although the hope is the teaming of writer/actor Kristen Wiig, with producer Judd Apatow and director Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks), will produce something special. The film centres on two women battling to throw the best wedding party for their friend.
