A few months ago, despite problems with the film moving from one studio to another, it looked like Angelina Jolie was all set to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. However she dropped out (partly over pat), and while the director scored Robert Downey Jr. for the male lead, the main female role – which is the centrepiece of the movie – has been empty.
However now THR reveals that it’s come down to two actresses, with Blake Lively (Gossip Girl, Green Lantern) and Scarlet Johansson having both tested for the role in the past couple of weeks, with a decision as to who will get it expected soon. Marion Cottilard also tested, but THR suggest it’s now looking like it’s between Lively and Johansson.
Cuaron co-wrote the Castaway-meets-Apollo-13 film with his brother Jonas, about a team of astonauts repairing the Hubble telescope who get hit by debris from an exploded satellite, killing nearly everyone. The film then revolves around the surviving female astronaut’s battle to fight her way back to Earth and reunite with her daughter.
