Tell No One has charted an unusual course to Hollywood. Originally a book by bestselling US author Harlan Coben, rather than being immediately snapped up by a studio, the tale went French, with Guillaume Canet writing and directing a gallic take on the story.
It was only when that taut movie was critically acclaimed and started doing the rounds that Hollywood pricked up its ears and began to take notice, with producer Kathleen Kennedy signing on to develop an English-langauge do=over in 2009. Now the LA Times reports that there’s been some new movement on the adapation, with The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford writer/director Andrew Dominik hired to come up with the script. However there’s no news if he’ll also direct, although it’s more than possible that’s the plan, as that seat is currently vacant.
He’s reworking the story of a doctor who, after believing his wife has been murdered years before (and in fact after being named as a suspect in the case), begins getting mysterious messages suggesting she may still be alive.
However, there’s still no guarantee it’ll get made, with Focus Features, which is financing the film, currently having to look very hard at its slate, due to the economic uncertainties that are still present in the film business. The original plan was to have Tell No One shooting last spring, but obviously that didn’t happen, and with work ongoing on the script, it looks like it’s still a way off.
