While it took Danny Boyle a while to decide what movies to make after the Oscar winning triumph of Slumdog Millionaire, principal photography is now complete on 127 Hours, and now the first images have shown up online, via the Playlist (although they’re actually scanned from the latest issue of EW). You can see one of the pics above, and another below.
127 Hours is about Mark Ralston, who went out mountain climbing but got his right arm trapped under a boulder in Utah in 2003. He spent five days trying to extricate himself, before running out of water, trying to drink his own urine and videotaping goodbyes to his family.
He then realised there was only one way to survive and so he did the unthinkable. Using a dull blade and some pliers that were part of a cheap multi-use tool he had with him, he chopped chop his own arm off, before rappeling down a 65ft sheer cliff and hiking out of the canyon. Indeed, alongside the images, EW quotes Boyle as saying, “This movie is going to be obsessive, and it will be for obsessives You will want him to cut off his arm off by the end.” The film should be in cinemas at the end of the year.
