We haven’t heard much from Cillian Murphy for a while, but he’s coming back, signing up for Retreat a couple of weeks ago and now THR reports that he’s joining the cast of Andrew Niccol’s (The Truman Show, Lord Of War) high-concept sci-fi thriller, Im.mortal, which also recently added Amanda Seyfried to its star roster. A couple of weeks ago a rumour went out saying Justin Timberlake had been offered the male lead in the film, and THR now says that while he’s definitely interested, he’s still negotiating a deal.
Im.mortal is about a future society where the aging process stops at around the age of 25. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality. A poor rebel called Will (possibly TImberlake) kills someone for their time and goes on the run from a corrupt police force known as ‘time keepers’, taking Amanda Seyfried’s character hostage. Inevitably though captor and captive start to fall for one another.
Murphy will play one of the time keepers, who’s described as being as “precise as the time he keeps.” Writer/director Niccol plans to start shooting in late Setember, with a release set for next year.
