Ever since Star Wars: Episode III arrived in cinemas, there’s been talk of George Lucas working on up a live action TV series that would be set between Episodes III and IV. When the idea first became public, Luca promised something spectacular, saying that because he owned his own effects company, he could make something massive on a much smaller budget than anyone else could do.
However the project got delayed and delayed and delayed, with Lucas then saying that he wanted all the scripts ready before he started filming. But even now, five years on, it seems the bearded one is still having problems, and this time it’s that despite promising something on a grand scope, his plans may still be too big to make it economically viable.
Comic Book Movie is reporting that at a screening of The Empire Strikes Back that he attended, Lucas told the audience, “The live action TV show is kind of on hold because we have scripts, but we don’t know how to do them. They literally are Star Wars, only we’re going to have to try to do them at a tenth the cost. And it’s a huge challenge, a lot bigger than what we thought it was gonna be.”
Whether the idea will be resurrected is yet to be seen, but in the meantime, there’s also a new animated Star Wars series in the works, that will also be set between Episodes III and IV, which should arrive yet year.
