In news guaranteed to make just about everyone on the planet feel really old, 16-year-old Canadian singer Justin Bieber has inked a deal to write the first volume of his memoirs, and has also signed up with Paramount Pictures to star in a movie that will hit cinemas Valentine’s Day 2011.
According to Deadline, the 3D movie will be part biopic – with Bieber starring as himself – and part concert film, giving audiences a backstage pass into the life of the young singer, as well as offering specially shot 3D footage of his current My World 2.0 tour. Slightly oddly, Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth director, Davis Guggenheim, is in talks to direct.
To be honest, the film could actually be vaguely interesting (but probably won’t be), as while to those over the age of 15, he seems like just another pre-packaged, teeny-bop singer, he was actually discovered in 2008 after posting a load of videos onto Youtube, with his early popularity driven through social networking rather than major record label backing. Although he’s since been turned into a pre-packaged, teeny-bop singer, a look at how he went from small-town Ontario teen, to multi-million selling artist could be okay, as least for his fans. Hell, the video for his song, Baby, scored 270 million views on Youtube, suggesting there’s a lot of love out there for him.
Bieber also took to his Twitter account to announce the news in his usual vaguely illiterate style, saying “Next Valentine’s we r coming with a major 3D Movie telling the story with an Oscar winning director and also filmin the tour at MSG in NYC!!… This is so sick!! Gonna come out in theatre’s Worldwide Valentine’s 2011!!! I’m taking this thing worldwide thanks to u all!! Hyped!!”
