Kurt Russell has a new role as he’s signed on to star inTouchback, which starts shooting this week in Michigan. It’s one of those roles that every middle-aged actor seems to have to play at some point, with Kurt as a high-school football coach.
According to Variety, he’ll star opposite Brian Presley (Home of the Brave), Melanie Lynskey (Up in the Air) and Christine Lahti (Obsessed), with Presley as a farmer and volunteer fireman whose high school football career was taken from him when he was critically injured in a playoff game. He then gets a chance to decide if he wants to keep his current life, or the life he could have had, when he’s unexpectedly thrust back to that fateful instant that changed his life forever.
Although that synopsis alone is enough to induce nausea, hopefully Russell will bring some much needed grounding to the inspirational drama. Writer/director Don Handfield is behind the camera, with the movie expected in cinemas next year.
