While the original plan was to have already completed principal photography on Spider-man 4, with Sam Raimi directing and Robey Maguire once more starring, that unsurprisingly didn’t happen when both of them walked away from the project earlier this year. Since then Sony’s been very busy setting up a reboot, with Marc Webb helming and Andrew Garfield recently announced as the new lead.
Now the film is in a good enough state for the studio to greenlight it and give it a start date, with Coming Soon reporting that the refreshed webbed wonder will start shooting in December in Los Angeles, which should give them plenty of time to get the film ready for its July 3, 2012 release. The Spidey reboot will take the story back to the beginning, with Peter Parker in high school and apparently facing much teen angst. However don’t expect anything as big and explosive as Raimi’s web-slinging movies, as Sony has apparently scaled back the budget to under $100 million (which is nothing for a superhero movies nowadays), with more concentration on character than massive action set-pieces.
Coming Soon also says Sony is getting ready to go on Men In Black III, with that one shooting from September in New York, ready for its May 25, 2012 release, with Barry Sonenfeld once more directing.
