After walking away from Nailed a couple of weeks ago – the film he shot a couple of years ago, but could’t be finished after getting caught in bankruptcy proceedings – David O’Russell is busy setting up a new movie, Old St. Louis, based on his own script.
And according to Deadline, he’s alread founfdsomeone to star in it, with Vince Vaughn in advances negotiations to take on the lead role, as well as produce through his Universal based Wild West Picture Show Productions.
The rather generic sounding film is about ‘a traveling salesman who has been an absentee father, and how his life changes when his daughter becomes part of his life.’ Let’s just hope the script can offer a little bit more than the million other movies that have had a similar premise (it’s said the idea of films about absentee or distant parents finding redemption is so popular in Hollywood, due to the guilt many feel about being away from home for so long on movie sets and doing promotional duties).
Chloe Moretz has been mentioned as a possible actress to play the daughter, although it’s not known whether that’s because they’ve actually been talking to her, or if she’d just on a wish-list. Apparently O’Russell wants to make the film next, which leaves questions about his involvement in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as there had been plans to get that in front of the cameras before the end of the year. It’s not known whether that film has been delayed, if O’Russell’s interest in it is waning, or if O’Russell just wants to prioritise Old St. Louis.
