Back in February it was revealed that David Tennant and Thandie Newton were due to star in the thriller Retreat, and at the time it seemed Jason Isaacs was set to join them. However Deadline now reports that Isaacs has left the project, and instead Cillian Murphy has signed on.
Directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts, the film will follow a couple (Newton and Murphy) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island. However their peace is shattered when they find a man in military uniform (Tennant) half-dead on their doorstep, who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland. However there may be more to what’s going on that what they’re told.
It would appear Isaacs leaving is to do with the fact that when it was announced, the movie was due to start shooting in May. However that didn’t happen, causing scheduling problems. Now it will start filming in September. It’s also worth noting that the Deadline report makes no specific mention of David Tennant, so whether that means his involvement is now up in the air, is unclear.
