Here’s the latest casting new coming out of Hollywood…
The Paul Rudd indie comedy My Idiot Brother is taking on an increasingly British dimension, as only last week Hugh Dancy and Janet Montgormery signed onto the film, while Emily Mortimer was already involved. And now it appears that Steve Coogan is joinging them. The film is about an idealist (Rudd) dealing with an overbearing mother, who crashes into the homes of his three sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Mortimer). While he turns their lives upside-down, he also brings them truth and happiness. Coogan will play a self-righteous documentary filmmaker. Shooting has already started on the film in New York. What happened to Rob Schneider? A few years ago he had headlining movie coming out in an endless stream, which didn’t seem to have been made to make money, but so the Hollywood had something that made all their other movies look great by comparison. Well now it seems he’s got a new flick in the works, called Norm Of The North, although thankfully he’ll only be the voice of the title character. The 3D CG movies tells the story of a polar bear and his three Arctic buddies. They end up in New York after their icy home starts to melt and break apart. (Source: THR)
Russell Brand wants to play a legendary swordsman (well, he wants to be one to, but in a slightly different way), and as a result he’s the catalyst behind an action comedy called Hawkwood, which is getting going at 20th Century Fox. Jared Stern is writing the script about the adventures of a real-life swashbuckling figure, John Hawkwood. A morally challenged but gifted swordsman, Hawkwood was paid to lead various European armies during the Renaissance wars. The film was apparently Brand’s idea, after he heard about Hawkwood, and now he hopes to get a movie about him made. (Source: Deadline)
The movie I Melt With You seems to be coming together quickly, as only in the last couple of weeks we got our first definite news about the Mar Pelling film, and since then Rob Lowe, Thomas Jane and Mark Piven have signed on to star. Now some new cast members have been announced, with Sasha Grey, Zander Eckhouse, Abhi Sinha and Arielle Kebbel all signing up. The character drama follows a group of college buddies (Jane, Lowe and Piven) who, now as adults, look within themselves and find emptiness when they have their annual summer reunion. They resurrect a pact they vowed to live, die and kill by. Grey will play a character named Raven, described as a free spirit who helps one of the men realise that nirvana can only be achieved by death. Eckhouse plays Grey’s idealistic writer boyfriend. Sinha is a medical student, and Kebbel is a young hostess. (Source: THR)
Comedian Richard Lewis is joining the cast of Vamps, the vampire rom-com that will reunite Alicia Silverstone with Clueless director Amy Heckerling. Silverstone and Kirsten Ritter will play New York socialite vampires whose freewheeling lifestyles are tripped up when they find love. Sigourney Weaver also stars as the queen vamp who turned them into bloodsuckers. Lewis will play a former student activist who works as an ACLU lawyer. (Source: THR)
