While the role of the new Peter Parker/Spider-man eventually went to Andrew Garfield, it seems short-listed actor Josh Hutcherson was so keen on bagging the part that he even went to a gym with a few other guys and put together his own all-action audition tape to show the producers and director that he’s got the moves to play the webbed wonder.
It’s far more action packed than you’d expect from an audition tape, and if you’re wondering how we know that, it’s because it’s been leaked to Latino Review, so we can get a taste of the Spider-man movie that might have been. A lot of people were gunning for Josh to get the Spider-man job, not least because unlike the 27-year-old Garfield, at 18 he’s around the right age to play Parker back at school in Marc Webb’s start-over reboot. He’s also shown a decent amount of on-screen charm in the likes of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, Bridge To Terabithia and Cirque DU Freak.
Alas, it won’t happen, but click below to get a tiny feel of what it might have been like.
