Every pop star’s got to do it at least once, and now it seems it’s the turn of Rihanna to have a go at trying to make the transition from music to film. And she’s not just dipping her toe in either, as she’s scored a role in one of the big, action blockbusters of 2012, Battleship.
Variety reports that she recently signed a deal to star in the movie, although there’s no news on what role she’ll play. Whatever it is, she’ll join Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgaard in the big screen adaptation of the Hasbro board game. The film revolves around an international fleet coming together to battle a water-bound armada of alien origin, who are trying to use our oceans as a power source and become a threat to humanity in the process. The hero, played by Kitsch, will be a wildly spirited naval officer, who idolises his straight arrow older brother, played by Skarsgard.
So is Rihanna gonna be in the thick of the action? At home waiting to hear if the hunky naval heroes will win? An alien? And perhaps more to the point, can she act, or should she just stick to singing about brollies? Who knows? Hopefully all will become clear soon.
Shooting on the Peter Berg direct movie is due to begin soon, with the film reaching cinemas May, 2012.
