The people behind The Gathering seem to ben planning a horror fan’s dream by gathering together an impressive bunch of splatter flick luminaries for a portmanteau flick that’ll get plenty of kudos for its ensemble, irrespective of what the film’s like.
According to Variety, the producers are currently in talks with both Robert Englund (A Nightmare On Elm Street) and Linda Blair (The Exorcist) to appear in the film, and they’ve already signed up – are you ready for it – Doug Bradley (Hellraiser’s Pinhead), Udo Kier (Suspiria, Blade), William Sadler (The Mist, Bordello Of Blood, Tales From The Crypt), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), Danielle Harries (Urban Legend, Halloween), Clint Howard (House Of The Dead), David Naughton (American Werewolf), Billy Drago (The Hills Have Eyes), Larry Fessenden (I Sell The Dead, and a horror director in his own right), Debbie Rochon (loads of Troma movies), Adrienne King (Friday The 13th), Brian O’Halloran (Clerks), Lin Shaye (2001 Maniacs), Ellen Sandweiss (The Evil Dead), Brinke Stevens (Teenage Exorcist) and Kowa Gordon (Twilight’s Embry Call).
That’s quite a list, which they probably managed to put together as each person’s role will be fairly small, the The Gathering imagines a scenario where the Devil brings together Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, H.P Lovecraft and Mary Shelley, all of whome are charged with telling the most frightening untold tale they can imagine, with the movie then showing us the resulting stories. The film is set to shoot late this year or early 2011, but when it goes straight-to-DVD, as it inevitably will, it’ll probably be worth watching just for all those horror legends. After all, any movie with Freddy Krueger, Pinhead and Regan McNeill in it has to be worth a look!
