I’d like you to do something for me. Take a look at the first poster for the Zach Galifianakis film It’s King Of A Funny Story below, which has debuted over at Movieweb. If you know what the film is about, pretend you don’t and then tell me what the poster suggest about the film. Some sort of knockabout comedy? Scrubs meets The Hangover?
What it certainly doesn’t do is give you the feel of a dramedy about a teen called Craig (Keir Gilchrist) who checks himself into a mental health facility to deal with his stress and despression, but ends up on the adult ward because the teen ward is being renovated. There he meets many people with all sorts of problems, including Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), who becomes a kind of protege as Craig deals with this issues and sparks a fledling romance with fellow teen patient Noelle (Emma Roberts).
It may be the most generic poster I’ve seen in a long time, which is probably deliberate as the marketeers probably reckin selling it a a comedy is better than actually giving a taste of the real film. Hopefully they’ll come up with something a bit better by the time the Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s (Half Nelson, Sugar) film hits cinemas later this year. Actually, for a better look at the film, just watch the trailer, which suggests the movie will be a lot better than the three-minute Photoshop timidity below does.
