They seem to be doing things in a rather strange way for Skyline, as usually from the moment a big sci-fi film is announced, studios are busy trying to get people to talk about it and anticipate it like it was the Second Coming. However other than a few chaste casting announcments back in February, which said the likes of Kate Mara, Eric Balfour and Laz Alonso would star in it, Universal’s Skyline has been off nearly everyone’s radar.
Indeed, when the studio took the decision to promote the movie by covering an entire hotel with a poster in San Diego for Comic-Con, the reaction of most of the geek cognoscenti was simply, ‘What the hell is that?’ Now the first image from the film has been released via Hitfix (and even the site’s Drew McWeeney, who’s been going to moderate the film’s Comic-Con panel, admits he hadn’t heard of it before he was asked), which you can see above. The site also provides the following synopsis: ‘In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.’
The film is being directed by the Brothers Strause (AvP: Requiem) and should be in cinemas this November. Plus, take a look at the hotel covered by a Skyline poster below (image via Movieweb).
To be honest, LA seems to be having a bad time with aliens today, as between this and the first photos from Battle: Los Angeles that we just posted, the city is having a pretty crappy time.
