What ever happened to Wes Bentley? He showed so much promise in American Beauty, but since then he’s made little that anyone’s taken any notice of, other than perhaps Ghost Rider and Jonah Hex, but even they’ve underperformed at the box office. It seems a case of a young actor who took himself too seriously, and as a result failed to capitalise on his success.
However now he’s got the lead role in a new post-apocalytic indie drama called Hirokin, which Alejo Mo-Sun is directing from his own script. According to Variety, Bentley will play a ‘reluctant hero… marked by a dark past, and who must fulfill his destiny when when forced to choose between avenging the murder of his family and fighting for the freedom of a people long abused.’
Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr will play a cunning temptress, while Mad Men’s Lynn Ramsey will be the heroine. Also joining the film is Angus MacFadyen as a tribal leader and Julian Sands as the villain. Shooting is currently underway in LA.
