With shooting ending last month on the final film, all the young Harry Potter actors are now lacking the security of the franchise and busy trying to ensure they’ve got a career going forward. While Daniel Radcliffe is okay, lining movies and stage shows, things are slightly less certain for the rest of the cast. However Tom Felton, who plays the unpleasant Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter has now lined up his first high profile gig following the end of shooting the wizarding movies, by landing a role in the Planet of the Apes reboot/prequel, Rise Of The Apes.
Fox announced the news via Twitter, saying “Another cool addition: Tom Felton (Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy) joins Caesar: Rise of the Apes as Brian Cox’s son, co-owner of ape facility.” It’s not knwon whether that makes him a good guy or a bad guy, but Cox’s character is the main baddie, a man who runs a primate sanctuary without compassion for the animals that live there. That leads to trouble when scientists hoping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s end up turning a monkey called Caesar super-smart, and despite James Franco’s lead scientist trying to protect the simian, it eventually turns into a full scale war for supremacy between apes and humans.
We’d bet Tom will be being a villain, but you’d think that after a decade of being loathed in Harry Potter, he’d want to show that sometimes he can be nice.
