It’s being described by some as the District 9 for 2010, and while it isn’t yet known if Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi flick will have the same impact as Neill Blomkamp’s film from last year, it does sound rather cool and is getting a lot of strong buz. The movie premiered at this year’s SXSW in Texas, and also screened at Cannes, with Veritgo picking it up for UK distribution, setting a release date November 12th.
The film is set six years after a NASA space prove arrives back on Earth containing alien life, which grows, evolves and starts to cause havoc, turning the southern US and north of Mexico in an alien infested zone! The film focusses on two characters and their experience in this terrifying new world.
The film is also notable for being a monster movie allegedly made on a production budget of $15,000, but offering something that looks a hell of a lot more expensive. Now Empire has premiered the first UK posters and some images from the film. You can see the poster above and the image below, and under that are a couple of videos, one being a clip from the movie and another a featurette of how former effect guys and CG-heavy drama-documentary director Edwards made his movie for so little money.
