Joseph Kosinski hasn’t half done well for himself. He seemingly came out of nowhere to grab the directing chair for Tron Legacy (although he had been making commercials for year), and Disney has been so pleased with what he’s been doing on the film, they’ve already signed him up for a remake of The Black Hole. He’s also developing Oblivion, which he’s had in the works for a few years, but which Tron Legacy has given a huge kick in the ass (and which will soon be released as a graphic novel).
Now Kosinski has got another new film he’s attached himself to, based on a script by newcomer Andrew Will, with Tony and Ridley Scott producing through their Scott Free banners. According to THR, ‘The script is set in the near future and is described as a Bourne-style thriller crossed with alien elements. The protagonist is part of an elite force that is tasked with tracking aliens who get past Earths defense system.’ So basically Men In Black with fewer jokes.
It’s a premise with plenty of potential, and considering his work on Tron and in commericials (which have tended to be action oriented and slightly futuristic), Kosinski would seem to be a good choice. However at the moment everyone’s just waiting to see what he’s done with Tron Legacy, as while what we’ve seen so far has been fantastic, the film is yet to be completed. However with a gargantuan Tron Legacy presentation expected at ComicCon next week, the hype should skyrocket even more.
