In the last year, nearly all the news about Ryan Murphy has been about his work on the all-conquering Glee, however he’s also a movie writer/director, having made Running With Scissors, Pretty/Handsome and the upcoming Eay Pray Love, starring Julia Roberts and based on the Oprah endorsed book (which is terrifying by itself) by Elizabeth Gilbert.
With Murphy’s status currently at an all time high, Sony is seemingly pleased enough with what he’s done on Eat Pray Love to sign up for another film, and Julia Roberts is already onbaord as well. The studio is apparently paying Murphy $5 million to write and direct a currently untitled rom-com, which Deadline reports is about ‘a working woman (Roberts), married to a stay-at-home husband. She loses her job, their roles are reversed, and she has to adjust to motherhood.’ It’s a fairly simple premise, but hopefully Murphy can bring some of the spark he added to Glee. And as along as it’s better than Umma Thurman’s Motherhood, I think we should consider it a success.
It’s amazing Murphy has time to fit everything in, as running a TV show is normally a full time job, but he’s nevertheless also managed to write six episodes of Glee, make Eat Pray Love, pitch numerous other projects, is on the shortlist to direct the film version of Wicked and goodness knows what else, and now he’s go this new film and the second season of his hit series to worry about!
